Care for elderly patients in community pharmacy e-book

CPD Learning for Pharmacists is a new series of ebooks from The Pharmaceutical Journal. The first book in the series focuses on the care of older patients. In 2016, 11.8 million people were aged 65 or over in the UK, of which 1.6 million were aged 85 and over. The number of over-65s is predicted to increase by 40% in the next 17 years, and the over-85s by 50% in the next 23 years.

The book is exclusively available here via Amazon

The book consists of 26 articles from The Pharmaceutical Journal, written by experienced and advanced level practitioners in their specialist fields. Most focus on specific therapeutic areas or conditions that are common to older people. The authors pull together the evidence on therapeutic management and its application to real practice. The articles are written with the practitioner in mind rather than as an academic resource. The questions at the end of each article help the reader to recap the key points, check understanding and identify areas for further reading or development.

The book can be used flexibly to meet the reader’s need depending on their identified need (for example, through reflective practice, drug incidents or continuing professional development) and what they intend to get from it to improve practice.

The areas covered include:

  • Alzheimers and dementia
  • Arthritis
  • Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
  • Diabetes
  • Glaucoma
  • Osteoporosis
  • Prostate Cancer
  • Pulmonary hypertension
  • Palliative care
