Our front cover picture ties in with news this week that two new schools of pharmacy are being planned in East Anglia and in Kent. Both have yet to gain approval from the Royal Pharmaceutical Society and the Higher Education Funding Council for England (p608).

Standard operating procedures for dispensing
This week we publish a guidance document, produced by the Royal Pharmaceutical Society, on standard operating procedures for dispensing. The document is part of a process to support clinical governance in the pharmacy setting. Comments from pharmacists are invited (p616). Leading article (p607).

Renal disease
Our first article in a continuing education series on renal disease looks at the causes and treatment of acute renal failure (p625).

Influenza
