Front Cover Picture
Presentation of the Pharmaceutical Care Awards for 2000 was marked by a celebratory lunch at The Savoy, London, on June 22. Our report of the proceedings begins on here. Also Comment

Minister’s first speech
In her first public speech as parliamentary under-secretary of state for health, Hazel Blears has said that action is needed to ensure that medicines management becomes fundamental to pharmacy practice.

New triptan
Research has shown that eletriptan, a new oral treatment for migraine, is safe and effective in patients who respond poorly to sumatriptan treatment. However, the drug may not be available to patients for a couple of months.

Sun protection
The ninth article in our continuing education series on travel medicine looks at the effects of ultraviolet radiation from the sun on the skin and the preventive measures that can be taken to avoid skin damage.

Melatonin
The final article in our series on nutraceuticals is intended to increase pharmacists’ awareness of melatonin, which, although it is not licensed in the United Kingdom, is sometimes purchased by patients from the United States or via the internet.
