Front Cover Picture
Other health regulators operate across the United Kingdom. This week's
front cover picture (Stone) illustrates our news
feature, which asks whether the Royal Pharmaceutical Society, as part
of its modernisation programme, should consider a merger with the Pharmaceutical
Society of Northern Ireland
Balance of Council
In the light of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society's decision that it should
retain both its regulatory and professional roles within a reformed structure,
it has issued a discussion paper, published as a four-page centre pull-out
section with this week's Journal (PDF*,
165K), which asks for views on how to achieve the right balance on the
Society's Council.
Patient safety warning
The National Patient Safety Agency is expected
to advise that concentrated potassium chloride ampoules should be
removed from all general wards in hospitals

A professional forum
In our occasional Agenda for 2002 section, two articles by fellows of
the Society put forward the case for change regarding lay membership of
the Council, and for the creation of a professional forum.
