Front Cover Picture
Our front cover picture (Michael Donne/Science Photo Library) draws attention
to several items in this week’s issue that relate to pharmacy workforce
and skill mix. A decision has been made by the Royal Pharmaceutical Society’s
Council that mandatory
registration of pharmacy technicians by the Society
should be introduced by 2007. This would be preceded by a two-year voluntary
period
A consultation
document, which proposes a framework for
regulating support staff other than pharmacy technicians, is also published
in this week’s issue
An article provides a further contribution
to the pharmacy workforce skill mix debate (PDF 60K)
NHS Direct
NHS Direct has set out national
standards to be followed by call centres
on all aspects of pharmacy and medicines
Indigestion remedies
This month’s special feature focuses on
over-the-counter management of indigestion (PDF 65K)
Society developments
The Royal Pharmaceutical Society’s Council has decided to seek
charitable status. One consequence is that the publishing activities
of the Society would have to be managed by a separate,
wholly owned company
