Sir Hugh Casson, who, as president of the Royal Academy of Arts, officially unveiled the pharmacy green cross symbol devised for the Pharmaceutical Society (PJ, September 1, 1984, p247) died recently.
Speaking at the unveiling ceremony, Sir Hugh congratulated the Society on producing the symbol, which, he said, would enable people to identify places at which they might obtain medications with the safeguard of knowing that their sources of supply were supervised by specialists whose entire training had been devoted to understanding the uses and effects of drugs and medicines. Dr D. H. Maddock was President of the Society at the time of the launch.
