From Mr Y. Patel, MRPharmS
SIR,—My local pharmaceutical committee totally agrees with the views expressed by Messrs Patel and Boorman in their letter to Mr Dobson (PJ, September 4, p361).
The top level failure to involve pharmacy in recent health papers on the National Health Service has led to local players — such as all the primary care groups in our area — virtually omitting pharmacy and its services in their investment strategies. I wonder where Mr Dobson got this habit from?
When New Labour was elected I also thought it was the dawning of a new era for pharmacists. It seems, however, that the status quo of the previous administration has been maintained.
The next time Mr Dobson speaks to us he should tell us how he will ensure that community pharmacists — properly remunerated — will play an active part in the new NHS. We await the publication of his pharmacy strategy document in this millennium. Let us hope that it is not a huge disappointment.
