Community pharmacy

Experiences mirrored

From Mr G. S. Phillips, MRPharmS

SIR,—I have to agree with my colleagues Jayvant Patel and Gary Boorman (PJ, September 4, p361). Their experiences exactly mirror my own: the members of West Hertfordshire local pharmaceutical committee have made superhuman efforts to support the primary care group agenda. Although we have achieved the relative success of several co-options to the various PCG committee structures, this has been achieved at tremendous personal cost, and with no support or reward for our efforts.
I will not rehearse the detail here; it would add nothing to the debate.
Suffice it to say that I have written to my local Member of Parliament with a brief outline of my experience, and a copy of the open letter. My LPC colleagues and our secretary have all agreed to do the same, and I would urge all pharmacists to contact their own MP and express their disillusion similarly.
Messrs Patel and Boorman are to be congratulated upon a balanced and well-written letter. They have shown us the way — let us ensure that our voice is heard.

Graham Phillips
Vice-Chairman, West Hertfordshire Local Pharmaceutical Committee
