Kira Ltd (a subsidiary of Lichtwer Pharma) has launched Black Cohosh — a new supplement marketed to help relieve the symptoms of the menopause, such as hot flushes and night sweats. Each tablet contains 4.5mg of concentrated standardised extract from the root of the black cohosh plant, equivalent to 54mg of the fresh herb, says the company. The company adds that research suggests that black cohosh acts on the hypothalamus, where it helps to regulate body temperature.
