Miss Dorothy Browne, MRPharmS, has been awarded a master of education degree in primary health care by Bristol university. Miss Browne is currently on flexible leave from a post at the Northern general hospital, Sheffield.
Mr Barrie Davies, MRPharmS, of Macclesfield, has been invested into the Order of St John. Membership is awarded in recognition of dedicated service, over and above that which might reasonably be expected, to either of the order's charitable foundations, St John Ambulance or the St John ophthalmic hospital.
Mr Dipak Patel, MRPharmS, recently presented the Hillingdon mayor's charity appeal with a cheque for £22,001, representing money which he had raised with the help of friends, family and customers over a six-month period. The total appeal raised around £70,000 to go toward breast scanning equipment at Hillingdon hospital. Mr Patel was elected to the council of the London Borough of Hillingdon for the West Drayton ward in May, 1998.
Dr Sue Symonds, MRPharmS, was recently awarded a doctor of philosophy degree in sociology and social policy by Nottingham university. Her thesis was entitled “Part-time work in community pharmacy: a bridge, a trap or a balance?” and was funded by the Pharmacy Practice Research Enterprise Scheme. Dr Symonds qualified as a pharmacist at Adelaide, Australia, and, after coming to the United Kingdom in 1972, worked as a community pharmacist in Nottingham.
