Views sought on membership groups for community and primary care

The Royal Pharmaceutical Society is seeking the views of members on how its membership groups and committees should be structured to best meet the needs of pharmacists working in the community and primary care pharmacy sectors.
In June, the Council approved a number of recommendations designed to make the Society's membership and special interest groups more valuable to the members and to the Society (PJ, June 12, p838). The Council asked for further work to be done on identifying the group and/or committee structures needed in community or primary care pharmacy, bearing in mind the rapid pace of change in the sector and the wish to respond flexibly to the needs of emerging groups within the profession, now and in the future.
A working group of Council and staff members has been brought together to consider the options within the sector and has identified the most likely options for meeting the needs of pharmacists working in these areas, to support the Society's strategic objectives, and to be flexible enough to adapt to future changes. The group has arranged a meeting in November to consider the way forward, with the discussion focusing on these options.
Representatives of a wide range of organisations in the profession, all of which have an interest in community or primary care pharmacy, have been invited to the meeting, but the group would also welcome input from individual pharmacists.
Copies of a background document prepared for the meeting may be obtained from Miss Valerie Green in the Society's practice division (tel 020 7820 3399 ext 305; fax 020 7582 3401; e-mail vgreen@rpsgb.org.uk) or from the Society's website www. rpsgb.org.uk. Comments should be sent to reach Miss Green by November 1.
