Weekley In a tribute to the late Eric Charles Edward Weekley (PJ, August 28, p308), Mr R. E. JAMES writes: I first met Eric in the late 1950s when he acquired a pharmacy in Bishopston Road, Ely. He became an active member of the Cardiff branch of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society and was chairman in the 1970s.
He was a keen collector of stamps and coins, of which he had a large collection. We became golfing members and played in matches organised by the local wholesalers.
He moved to Cowbridge in 1974, where he joined the Cowbridge Rotary club. He later became president.
We entered into partnership in Ely in 1983. His condition, resulting from polycystic kidneys, worsened and by 1986 he was put on dialysis. By 1990 it was obvious that he was too ill to continue, so we decided to retire. Shortly afterwards he had a kidney transplant and was in better health for eight years. His health deteriorated in 1998 after a fall at home and he was in indifferent health until his death.
He will be remembered by his colleagues as a fine pharmacist and by his customers as a friend and a "gentle man".
Our condolences go to his wife Ingrid, and his children and grandchildren.

Wright On August 29, Michael Ernest Milner Wright, FRPharmS, of 194 Park Avenue, Hull, North Humberside HU5 3EY. Mr Wright registered in 1952. Mr TIM J. BURROWS writes: I first met Mike when I relocated to Hull in 1978. He and his wife Mary, also a pharmacist, gave my wife and I an immediate welcome into their family. His influence on me personally, as a colleague and in business life, has been profound and invaluable. At all times and in every aspect of his life, Mike personified true professionalism with total modesty, humility, dignity, and integrity. He set for himself the very highest of standards which he successfully tempered with just the right degree of pragmatism and humour to produce the warm, caring, community pharmacist and human being that the public, colleagues and staff, and those in allied professions knew. Mike's remarkable intellect, attention to detail, and readiness to embrace complicated ideas and technologies is reflected in the breadth of interests he became expert in: electronics and electrical systems, computer systems and programming, photography and video, mechanics, wood-working, music, and so on. Mike combined all this activity with an extremely full and happy family life with Mary, Helen (his daughter), Tony and Pauline with Rosie and Thomas (son, daughter in law, and grandchildren). Their sorrow during Mike's illness this year and now, when his suffering is over, will be deep and forever but their love and many happy memories will bring strength and comfort. I feel their pain, share it, and will miss Mike all the rest of my life. Mr ROGER ODD writes: The pharmacy community in Hull and East Riding has lost a great friend in the untimely death of Mike Wright. Many of us had the privilege of working closely with him during the time he was secretary of the Hull Pharmacists Association and witnessed the quiet and effective way he managed the branch's affairs over several years. Not wishing to be at the front himself, he nevertheless ensured that pharmacy maintained a high profile in the Hull area. Mike formed a wonderful partnership with his wife Mary, and I for one will miss his quick wit and cheerful humour whenever we met. Our thoughts go out to Mary and the family at this sad time.
