The Royal Pharmaceutical Society's Pharmacy in a New Age "Over to you" roadshow in Cardiff has continued the success of the earlier roadshows, the Society's public relations unit says. Feedback from the evening - held during the British Pharmaceutical Conference (PJ, September 18, p429) - will help in the final planning of the fifth in the series, which is to be held in Taunton later this month for pharmacists in the Society's Bath and West of England region.
Feedback forms were given to the 500 or so pharmacists who attended the Cardiff roadshow. Of those who completed the form, 58 per cent said that they had had no previous involvement in Pharmacy in a New Age and 65 per cent said that they now wanted to become involved.
Fifty per cent of respondents said that they had learnt something useful, while 68 per cent said that they had enjoyed the multimedia format and 66 per cent felt that the roadshow matched or exceeded their expectations.
One respondent described the roadshow as "well run, slick and professional", suggesting that this should be the norm for the pharmacy profession. Another, after admitting to having previously thought that PIANA was irrelevant to grass roots members, wrote: "I now realise that all of our service innovations are PIANA initiatives. Well done!"
The Taunton roadshow is to be held on October 20 at the Somerset county cricket club from 7.15pm. A light buffet will be provided and a free tour of the club will be offered.
Invitations have already been sent to pharmacists with registered addresses in the Bath and West of England region. The Society says that pharmacists who wish to be sure of a place should make sure they respond promptly.
The aim of the "Over to you" stage of the New Age programme is to help pharmacists rise to the challenges they face, including a change in emphasis in the skills they need to use in their working lives. As at previous roadshows, the topics to be covered at the Taunton evening will include effective communication and the management of stress and change.
