Schering Corporation has changed the prescribing information for flutamide capsules in the US. The new information includes a new warning of liver toxicity and new monitoring requirements for hepatic injury. Schering-Plough told The Journal on October 4 that there would almost certainly be a similar change for flutamide tablets in the UK in the coming weeks.
The UK summary of product characteristics currently states that flutamide should be used with caution in patients with liver insufficiency. In addition, it says that periodic liver tests should be considered in all patients and should be carried out at the first signs of liver dysfunction.
