Money from the National Lottery is to be used to compare "bug busting" and parasiticidal medications as treatments for head lice.
Community Hygiene Concern has been awarded a grant of £127,736, spread over three years, which will be used for a trial to be carried out by researchers at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. The "bug busting" method, which was developed by CHC, involves combing out lice using ordinary shampoo and conditioner.
Commenting on the new study, Ms Joanna Ibarra (programme co-ordinator, CHC) said on October 5: "Thousands who have used the Bug Busting method have reported success, but the result should be tested in a clinical trial."
