Adverse drug reactions

BNF change

From Mr C. F. Green, MRPharmS

SIR,—While the new edition of the British National Formulary (Number 38) was as impressive as ever, the insert section, "What's new in this edition," failed to mention one important change.
Until now, pharmacists have been using specific forms to report adverse drug reactions to the Committee on Safety of Medicines/Medicines Control Agency (CSM/MCA). However, in the new edition of the BNF, yellow cards suitable for use by pharmacists eligible to report within the scheme (all hospital pharmacists and also community pharmacists within regional monitoring centres, namely, CSM Mersey, CSM Wales, CSM Northern and CSM West Midlands, are now available. Hopefully, pharmacists will use them.
