The Welsh National Assembly is drawing up a strategy for primary health care in the Principality.
The draft strategy, to which the Welsh Central Pharmaceutical Committee (WCPC) has contributed, was considered at a meeting of the assembly's Health and Social Services Committee on October 6.
Mr Michael King (secretary, WCPC) was invited to join the committee for the discussion, along with representatives of the medical and nursing professions and of Welsh social services departments and health authorities.
Mr King and the WCPC set out for the committee some objectives for a primary care strategy and ways in which investments in community pharmacy could lead to improved patient care.
At a meeting for Welsh local health group pharmacists on October 6 it was reported that pharmacy participation in LHGs had led to improved interprofessional relationships and a greater focus on patients, among other things. The perception of community pharmacists by other health professionals had been improved.
