Community pharmacists would represent a "formidable force" if they were to turn up in numbers at Members of Parliament's surgeries, Sir Norman Fowler (Numark's chairman) told the conference on October 13.
He said that hospital services grabbed most of the headlines and politicians responded to that. But there was a vast amount of political goodwill towards community pharmacy, and if community pharmacists spoke to MPs they would begin to take notice. Then Ministers and other members of the Government would start taking notice, too, said Sir Norman.
He added that the Numark brand was intended to indicate to customers a guarantee of high professional standards. That was what customers wanted. Numark's new fascia [see p687] emphasised that services were being provided by a professional.
"Community pharmacy can and will win," Sir Norman concluded.
