Mr Ted Smith (Boots regional general manager for North West England and a member of the Council of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society) has been appointed retail operations director of the newsagent and bookseller W. H. Smith High Street, the retail arm of W. H. Smith Group Plc.
He will take up his appointment on January 1. He will remain with Boots until December 31.
Mr Smith told The Journal on October 18 that he would complete his term on the Council of the Society, which ends in April, 2000. At that point he would decide whether he would stand again. If he felt that he still had a contribution to make, he would consider offering himself for election.
