Wyeth Lederle has withdrawn supplies of its rotavirus vaccine (Rotashield) in the United States. Sales of the vaccine were suspended this summer after reports of possible association between the vaccine and intussusception (a type of bowel obstruction) (PJ, August 21, p268). In a letter to doctors the company says that it has now decided to withdraw remaining stocks while additional studies are carried out "to better understand this relationship."
