New regional chairmen have been appointed for the North West and Trent regions of the National Health Service.
Professor Joan Higgins (professor of health policy, Manchester university) has been appointed to the North West region and Dr Peter Barrett (general medical practitioner, Nottingham) to the Trent region. Both have been appointed for four year terms from October 31.
In addition to their new responsibilities, Professor Higgins and Dr Barrett will continue to chair the Manchester and Nottingham health authorities, respectively.
