The Migraine Action Association provides anecdotal evidence supporting a new range of products for the relief of migraine in its October newsletter, Migraine Action News.
The products, called Coolcap, are plastic hoods, scarves and palm pads which provide pain relief through the application of cold or warmth, says the manufacturer, Scanmed International Ltd. Coolcap products are filled with water and can be stored in the refrigerator or freezer to make them cold, or alternatively may be filled with hot water.
The Migraine Action Association says that patients report the Coolcap products to be most effective when used in the early stages of a migraine headache.
Dr Anne MacGregor (City of London Migraine clinic) told The Journal on November 2 that, while the clinic had not used the Coolcap range, many people found the application of heat or cold helpful for the relief of migraine. Therefore, any product which made this easier could be useful, she said.
The Coolcap range is available from Scanmed International Ltd, PO Box 2508, Brightlingsea, Essex CO7 0PE; tel 0800 0744469.
