Moss wins Scottish prisons contract

Moss Pharmacy has secured a contract to supply pharmaceutical goods and services to 19 prison establishments run by the Scottish Prison Service, the company announced on October 29. The contract, which Moss won by competitive tender, will initially run for three years.
As revealed in The Journal earlier this year (PJ, June 12, p826), the service is to be run from a dedicated central dispensary located at Unichem Ltd's Livingston depot in central Scotland. Deliveries to the prisons will be made via the normal Unichem distribution service, serving each prison on a daily basis.
Dr Alan Mitchell (medical advisor, Scottish Prison Service) said that the service provided to prisoners by Moss would be similar to that available in the community.
"The prisoners, as patients, have as much right to expect professional standards of health care as any member of the general public," Dr Mitchell added.
