"Choose the right remedy this winter" campaign

Anew National Health Service campaign aimed at highlighting the different ways that patients can gain access to NHS resources, including pharmacies, over the winter period will begin in November.
Speaking at the press launch of "Choose the right remedy this winter" on October 28, Ms Gisela Stuart (Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Health) said that the public were not aware of the wide range of resources available to them when they became ill and that the campaign would help them to use NHS services more appropriately This was particularly important this year because of the extended Christmas and New Year holiday.
She added that the series of posters and advertisements to be used presented a more co-ordinated approach to providing winter health care than in previous years. The programme had included input from pharmacists, general practitioners, hospitals and social services.

Posters featuring a medicines cabinet, the contents of which provide information on when to use certain services, will be distributed to pharmacies and supermarkets. These mention pharmacists specifically as being able to provide "expert advice without an appointment".
Mrs Christine Glover (President, Royal Pharmaceutical Society) and Mr John D'Arcy (director, National Pharmaceutical Association) welcomed the campaign and its recognition of the contribution that pharmacists could make to patient care.
