Merck Consumer Health has launched Califig effervescent fibre drink, containing inulin (soluble fibre) 1.7g and fig powder 0.1 per cent. Inulin, derived from artichoke root, draws water into the intestine to soften the stool and has a bulk forming effect, says the company (net price, 6 x 10 tablets £7.44, retail price, 10 tablets £1.95).
