Composition: Rimexolone 1.0 per cent w/v.
Presentation: Eye-drops.
Storage and stability: Store at a temperature not exceeding 30C. Do not freeze.
Action: Corticosteroid. Suppresses the inflammatory response to a variety of inciting agents of a mechanical, chemical or immunological nature.
Indications: Treatment of postoperative inflammation following ocular surgery, anterior uveitis and corticosteroid responsive inflammation of the palpebral and bulbar conjunctiva, cornea and anterior segment of the globe. Inflammation should be non-infectious.
Contraindications: Epithelial Herpes simplex keratitis (dendritic keratitis), vaccinia, varicella and most other viral diseases of cornea and conjunctiva. Mycobacterial infection of the eye, fungal diseases of the eye and acute purulent untreated infections. Hypersensitivity to any component of the preparation.
Dosage and administration:
Adults, including the elderly, post- operative inflammation, apply one drop into the conjunctival sac of the affected eye four times daily beginning 24 hours after surgery and continuing throughout the first two weeks of the postoperative period. Steroid responsive inflammation, apply one drop four times or more daily. Duration should not exceed four weeks. Uveitis, four-week schedule recommended; see SPC.
Children, safety and effectiveness have not been established.
Overdosage: Flush from the eye(s) with lukewarm tap water.
Precautions: See SPC. Not for injection. Transient, blurred vision may occur immediately after administration.
Drug interactions: None identified during clinical studies.
Side effects: Increased intraocular pressure in certain individuals and posterior subcapsular cataract formation after heavy or prolonged use of topical ophthalmic corticosteroids. Ocular adverse reactions, ocurring in 1 per cent or more of patients in clinical studies, include blurred vision, discharge, discomfort, ocular pain, increased intraocular pressure and a foreign body sensation. Non-ocular effects include headache, hypotension, rhinitis, pharyngitis and taste perversion.
