Modified release

Naming proposal

SIR,—My thanks to Napp for its glossy card explaining how to avoid confusion in the dosage schedules of its Adizem products. Why not introduce an industry-wide standard for the naming of modified release products which would automatically indicate their dosage frequency? For example:

• l Adizem YL would become Adizem OD
• Adizem SR would become Adizem BD
• Adalat LA would become Adalat OD
• Adalat Retard would become Adalat BD
• Inderal LA would become Inderal OD

This convention could eliminate the potentially dangerous confusion caused by the existing product names.
