From Mr D. R. Kent, MRPharmS
SIR,—I note from a recent Journal (October 23, p664) that Ted Smith, having obtained a position outside of the profession of pharmacy, intends to retain his seat on the Council until the end of his present term in April, 2000. Afer that date he may consider offering himself for re-election.
It surely cannot be considered right that a person having no connection with pharmacy other than membership of the Society be in a position to represent the profession as a member of Council. I urge Mr Smith to do the right thing and resign from the Council on January 1, 2000, when he takes up his new position with W. H. Smith. Furthermore, Mr Smith should not seek re-election until as he returns to the practice of pharmacy.
The Council should not seek to fill the vacant seat by co-option so close to the next Council elections.
