From Mr S. P. Rajabali, MRPharmS
SIR,—I refer to Mr Mahmood's letter on the registration examination and the reply from Mr McConochie of the Society's professional standards directorate (PJ, October 16, p638).
Mr Mahmood was seeking justice through your columns and objected to the restrictions unfairly imposed on the number of attempts to pass the examination. Mr McConochie deviated from this issue and cited European law on the requirements for entry into the profession in the United Kingdom. This was a total irrelevance.
When medical professional bodies have done away with restrictions on the number of attempts it is high time that the Royal Pharmaceutical Society followed suit.
This would not reduce the standard of practice in any way, because, to be fully registered, candidates would acquire the necessary skills.
