Revamp leads to Unichem award

Field Pharmacy, of Deal, Kent, was named as the overall winner of the Unichem Great Business awards 1999 after its owners, Gill and Michael Field, transformed the business with a refit and increased marketing.
Following the acquisition of the business last year, Mr and Mrs Field organised a refit, arranged new window displays and made extensive local marketing efforts and saw the pharmacy's turnover increase by 10 per cent and prescription numbers by 25 per cent within six months. Mr and Mrs Field received their award, and a prize of two free places at Unichem's 2000 convention in Puerto Rico, at a ceremony in Birmingham on November 12.

Individual category awards were also presented as follows: business development, Lara Otunla and Georgia Michael (The Olde Pharmacy, Wandsworth, London) (PJ, March 27, p436); building relationships in the community, Martin Merriman (M. Merriman Pharmacy, Corbridge, Northumberland); promoting the business, Andrew Gush (Brackla Pharmacy, Bridgend); Healthy Times readers' pharmacist, Sarah Kibble (Combe Martin Pharmacy, Devon); most supportive manufacturer, jointly to Procter & Gamble and Nutricia for the "Baby come back" campaign (PJ, October 16, p629).
Unichem said that it had received three times as many entries for the 1999 awards as in the previous year and that readers of its Healthy Times magazine had made over 1,000 nominations of pharmacists who, in their opinion, had offered unparalleled services to customers.
