Modified release

Support for name changes

SIR,—I would like to back Peter Brown's call (PJ, November 13, p785) to standardise naming of modified release products. In particular I would like to draw attention to the Sinemet range by Dupont Pharma.

• Sinemet Plus (co-careldopa 25mg/100mg) should be renamed Sinemet 125
• Half Sinemet CR (co-careldopa M/R 25/100) should be renamed Sinemet 125 CR

This particular name is potentially dangerous as there is no obvious link between the two formulations. The "Plus" has no meaning. Both products are the same strength but one is modified release, the other is not. A busy dispensary is no place for such exotic, meaningless names.
