Cavilon no sting barrier film, a product used to protect intact, at risk or broken-down skin, is now available on the Drug Tariff. 3M Health Care Ltd says the product forms a transparent film protecting the skin from irritation and excoriation by bodily fluids such as urine, faeces and wound exudate. The film lasts for up to 72 hours and may be used in stage 1 and low exudating stage 2 pressure sore breakdown, incontinence dermatitis, stoma, venous ulcers, adhesion trauma and protection of the peri-wound area. The product is available as a single-use foam applicator (net price, 5 x 1ml £4.45, 5 x 3ml £7.15) and as a pump-action spray bottle (net price, 28ml £5.99).
