From Mrs M. Allen, MRPharmS
SIR,—David Morgan's article (PJ, November 20, p820) is a useful one, and timely for those pharmacists involved in the support or training of nurse prescribers. However, he makes one comment which, in my view, is misleading. After describing and listing the various zinc paste bandages available on the Tariff, he goes on to say that Zipzoc stockings (zinc oxide impregnated stockings) are not available in the community.
While he is right in that this stocking is not included in wound management products in Part IX of the Tariff, it is (through some quirky logic which escapes me) allowed on FP10 as a medicine. More relevantly, it is included in Part XVIIB of the Tariff, which is the Nurse Prescribers' Formulary, by its generic name "Zinc oxide impregnated medicated stocking NPF".
