Moss opens first "traditional" store

photo of traditional Moss pharmacy Moss Pharmacy has opened the first of its branches refurbished in a "traditional" store format at Northallerton, North Yorkshire.
Mrs Sue Rockhill (marketing director, Moss) told The Journal on December 3: "Rather than simply competing head on with other large high street retailers, such as Boots the Chemists and Superdrug, this format develops a clear point of difference, specialising in health care in a traditional, historical setting."
Trading as "E. Moss Ltd - the traditional pharmacy", the store uses the heritage of Mr Edgar Moss, the chain's founder, in both the ranges of products stocked and the physical appearance. Historical items, such as carboys, balances, bottles and jars, have been used to create a look which is aimed at reflecting the first Moss pharmacy, which opened in 1915. The Northallerton branch was acquired by Moss 18 months ago and has undergone a seven-week refit to acquire its new, traditional look, which is emphasised by dark wood fittings.
As well as handling prescriptions and over-the-counter medicines, the branch stocks alternative therapies and a range of gift items.
Moss Pharmacy recently announced that up to 10 of its branches, principally in market towns and tourist areas, could be refitted in the traditional format.
