The Young Pharmacists Group has contributed a chapter to a Royal College of Nursing book, ‘Nurse prescribing: politics to prescribing'.
The chapter, entitled "Nurse prescribing: what the pharmacists think", was compiled by YPG executive members Mr Jahn Dad Khan, Mr Alastair Buxton and Mr Sultan Dajani following discussion at the group's Midlands regional conference in April, 1998.
The chapter is mainly concerned with setting out a case for pharmacist prescribing, saying that this is needed to overcome apathy among recently qualified pharmacists who feel that their skills and knowledge are underused. It also highlights concerns raised by pharmacists about nurse prescribing, including the need for pharmacists to act as a "quality control" measure on such prescribing and the possibility of an increase in fraud.
