PSNC warnings

The Pharmaceutical Services Negotiating Committee has issued a warning to contractors to familiarise themselves with Part XVIIIb of the Drug Tariff (the selected list) because contractors in one local pharmaceutical committee area have been refused payment for over 100 Viagra prescriptions.
Payment was refused by the Prescription Pricing Authority because the forms had not been endorsed "SLS" by the prescriber.
LPC chairmen have also been told to refuse to sign millennium guarantees for health authorities (PJ, December 4, p886) because the proposed wording entails a guarantee that can only be given by individual contractors and could be construed as a promise to open on holidays and to provide extra-contractual emergency services where no arrangements have been made by HAs.
