Alliance Pharmaceuticals Ltd is launching Lysovir (amantadine hydrochloride) 100mg capsules to be taken daily for the prophylaxis and treatment of the signs and symptoms of influenza A infection. The product has been introduced in packs specifically for this purpose. The company says that when given within 48 hours of the first symptoms apppearing, amantadine reduces fever within 24 hours and also reduces the severity and duration of other symptoms. A dosage has not been established for children under 10 years of age. The company adds that there are no NHS restrictions on the prescribing of Lysovir (net price, 5 capsules £2.40, 14 capsules £4.80).
