Pharmacy dean for homoeopathy

The Faculty of Homoeopathy has decided to appoint dental and pharmacy deans to join the existing medical and veterinary representatives on its council.
The deans will be responsible for a range of duties associated with the practice of homoeopathy, including overseeing professional standards, education and disciplinary matters. The two new posts, to come into being on April 1, 2000, will be advertised early in the new year.
The faculty was created by Act of Parliament in 1950 to regulate the teaching and practice of medical homoeopathy and subsequently took on responsibility for veterinary medicine. In the past five years the faculty has sought to become associated with other health professions, reflecting their growing involvement in homoeopathy. It has accredited postgraduate training courses in basic homoeopathy, presently being taught in Glasgow, Bristol and Oxford. Candidates who are successful in the "primary health care certificate" examination held at the end of the eight-month part-time course are eligible to apply to become licensed associates of the faculty and to use the designatory letters LFHom.

Demand by pharmacists has been such that the faculty is now developing a second level qualification leading to a diploma in homoeopathic pharmacy. The new course, extending over 24-months including a period of practical experience, is expected to become available in London in September, 2000.
It is expected to be advertised in The Pharmaceutical Journal.
