DTP vaccine Behring SPC changes

Wyeth has revised the summary of product characteristics for DTP vaccine Behring (diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis vaccine) to include the following statements under special warnings and precautions for use: "As with other whole cell pertussis vaccines the incidence of local reactions and pyrexia tends to increase with the age of the patient. If DTP vaccine Behring is given to children who are older than the routine recommended age for DTP immunisation, parents are advised to have paracetamol or an equivalent preparation available for use if necessary. DTP vaccine Behring should not be used in adults or children aged ten years and over." The statement "DTP vaccine Behring should not be used after the first year of life", has been removed. The company says that the changes bring the SPC in line with currently recommended immunisation policy guidelines.
