Pharmacy part of healthy living centre bid

Dines Green Pharmacy, Worcester, is part of a bid for healthy living centre funding of £500,000 put together by a consortium led by Worcester city council. If the bid is successful, the pharmacy will provide information on preventative health care.
Mr David Wareing (chief executive, Worcester city council) said on December 14, 1999: "Healthy living centres are not about buildings or traditional ways of delivering services. They are about new ways of working with local communities to promote healthy living. The bid has really captured the imagination and enthusiasm of all those involved. If successful, it will see the Dines Green Pharmacy becoming the focus for preventative health care and advice, the local pub become a centre for sports actitivities and exercise and the local store encouraging healthy eating and healthy lifestyles. The primary school will also be involved, as will the Green centre and over 200 local volunteers. Once established at Dines Green, it is then intended to extend the work to all the estates across Worcester."
If the bid is successful, the money will be used to refurbish existing buildings to give more space for outreach health care and to employ professionals in health promotion and youth work. Worcester's bid is for a three-year project.
