Mr Victor Douglas Skeeles, a Bristol community pharmacist, was made MBE for services to the community in the 2000 new year's honours list.
Mr Skeeles has served as a member of Long Ashton parish council for over 40 years. He was elected to the council in 1953 and served until his retirement in 1999. He was council chairman in 1963 and 1964.
Mr Skeeles bought the first of five pharmacies in his family business at Long Ashton in 1947 and has practised as pharmacist for almost 60 years. In addition to his community services, Mr Skeeles has also served as a member of Avon local pharmaceutical committee.
