Ashwin Tanna meets mayoral nomination target

Mr Ashwin Tanna, a community pharmacist from south London who intends to stand for election as London's first mayor in five months' time, has achieved the necessary level of support for nomination as a candidate.
Mr Tanna told The Journal on January 12 that he had the signatures of over 500 people who were willing to nominate him as a candidate. The minimum number required for nomination is 10 from each of the 33 London boroughs.
As the nomination date approaches, London's Evening Standard drew together the policies of the nine potential candidates on January 11.
Mr Tanna's policies include freezing the cost of public transport, introducing congestion charges to discourage cars from the city, recruiting more police officers, environmental audits for planning applications, the reintroduction of pre-fabricated housing, the elimination of racism from public services, sustainable development and public accountability for the mayor and the London Assembly.
