David Wood to head Numark

Numark Ltd, a voluntary trading group for independent pharmacies, has appointed a pharmacist as deputy managing director who will succeed the present managing director, Mr Terry Norris, when he retires in May, 2002. He is Mr David Wood, who up to now has been marketing director. A replacement for Mr Wood as marketing director is now to be sought.
Mr Wood is a Bradford school of pharmacy graduate. He registered in 1982 and spent some time with Boots and Safeway before joining Numark as retail development director in 1990. He helped supervise the conversion of the company from a wholesaler-owned marketing group to a retailer owned industrial and provident society.
He will be the fourth managing director of the company and the first pharmacist to hold that post. The first managing director was Mr Arthur Trotman. He was followed by Mr Trevor Dixon and Mr Norris (in 1989).

David Wood: a change of style not content

Between now and 2002, Mr Wood, who is 39, will continue to oversee Numark's recently announced five-year strategic plan, which includes the establishment and self-regulation of minimum standards for Numark members.
Speaking at a press briefing in London on January 17, Mr Wood said that there was a bright future for Numark. He expected that members would see a change in style rather than content after the changeover. Numark needed to be radical and driven by consumer needs. Doing more of the same was not an option. Internet pharmacy was something it would have to take on board as an opportunity.
