Visitors to the Body Zone's "Explore area" in the Millennium Dome are being informed of the pharmacist's developing involvement in primary health care. The explore area is located at the exit of the body structure. In the pharmacy display, in the medicine and health section of the explore area, Boots the Chemists, sponsor of the Body Zone, and support-sponsors Roche and L'Oréal tell visitors: "The role of the community pharmacist is changing from supplier of medicines to supplementary health consultant and adviser". The display emphasises the pharmacist's involvement in areas such as on the spot medical services, smoking cessation programmes and travel medicines. Visitors are further told: "Your local pharmacist will provide a one-stop resource for health and well-being support".
The medicine and health section also includes a series of other displays which look at how individuals and medical practitioners will develop their health care roles in the future. There is also an operating theatre of the year 2010, a three dimensional representation of a drug binding to its target site and a virtual computer model of the heart for drug research.
The explore area further addresses other issues including life style and health (relaxation, diet and exercise) and beauty.
The interior of the body structure itself takes visitors on a journey through a series of special-effects exhibits which illustrate a number of different emotions, including fear, humour and sadness. Shock and fear are illustrated when visitors, standing inside a 12-foot model of a human ribcage in the heart room facing a life-like heart pumping at 60 beats per minute, hear a car crash and the heart beat races up to 120 beats per minute.
The sponsors expect up to 4,000 visitors to pass through the Body Zone every hour.
