SIR,—Another generic rip-off! A new product has been announced by Generics (UK) Ltd - sodium bicarbonate capsules 500mg in packs of 100. The cost of the active ingredient, using Hillcross's 200g pack is 7.5p for the 100 capsules. The price of these capsules to the National Health Service is £30.54. Generics UK should explain.

This price has not been set by Generics (UK) but is based on the current market prices available from existing suppliers. We are sure, therefore, that your reader will welcome the additional competition that we will bring to the market after launching the product, which can only result in lower prices.
