Health promotion

Health promotion is an increasingly important function for pharmacists. Many take an active part in health promotion events, displaying information in their pharmacies and making special efforts to speak to people about the conditions which are featured in them. In doing so, they reinforce the role of the pharmacist as a recognised source of information and a first point of contact for concerned patients.
With this in mind, we publish this week a list of national events taking place in the next three months (see p234). We hope pharmacists find it useful. The health promotion message is strongest, of course, when reinforced from several directions. By timing their efforts to coincide with those of others (including general medical practitioners) through participating in national events, pharmacists could have a greater effect.
