Careers

Former training

From Mr M. Goldhill, MRPharmS

SIR,—I read with interest Dr Kayne's article (PJ, January 22, p154) on community pharmacy as an option for a pharmacy graduate when choosing a career.
I wholeheartedly agree with his suggestion that fees should be imposed for the exercise of professional skills. However, he makes reference to "a shyness" displayed by his predecessors in imposing any charges for their professional services. As one of his "predecessors", I would point out that our training, although comprehensive, was in no way comparable to that undergone by today's pharmacy student (as a perusal of any pharmacy school's curriculum will confirm).
Our skills, and the only ones we could charge for, were confined to secundum artem.
