Frusemide supply problem

There is a problem with supplies of both the 2ml and 5ml ampoules of frusemide injection 10mg/ml, according to the Department of Health.
NHS Supplies says that new stocks are expected to become available by February 14 and, if necessary, a suitable product will be imported. The Department has asked that stocks be conserved where clinically feasible. It advises that, if necessary, bumetanide injection should be used in place of frusemide but warns that there is a difference in the doses. In general, 1mg bumetanide is equivalent to 40mg frusemide, the Department says. The Department has asked hospital pharmacists not to order excessive amounts of either frusemide or bumetadine from wholesalers.
