GAMES

Too real?

From Mr J. C. Hewitt, MRPharmS

SIR,—My daughter recently bought a new game for her Sony Playstation and, as it was called "Theme Hospital", I was keen to have a go. It proved to be an interesting game in which the player has to "design, maintain and manage a hi-tech hospital facility, making the most of limited resources and turning cures into cash". It was quite realistic and I was impressed - until, that is, I got to the description for establishing the pharmacy department, which read: "The first cure room to build is a pharmacy. This will dispense drug cures. Hire a nurse to work in it."
Do the creators of the game know something we do not, perhaps about plans for the further extension of the nurse's role? I await the launch of "Theme Com-munity Pharmacy" or "Theme Primary Care Group Prescribing Adviser" with interest.
