Glibenese SPC changes

Pfizer has revised the data sheet for Glibenese (glipizide) 5mg tablets, which is now in the form of a summary of product characteristics. The maximum recommended dose has been reduced to 20mg daily. Glibenese is now additionally contraindicated during lactation (previously a caution for use) and in concurrent use with miconazole. The updated SPC includes possible interactions with cimetidine, ACE inhibitors, alcohol, fluconazole and danazol. The following side effects have also been added to the SPC: confusion, malaise, tremor, visual disturbances, cholestatic jaundice, impaired hepatic function, various haematological reactions, metabolic reactions (porphyria cutanea tarda and hepatic porphyria, disulfiram-like reactions) and hyponatraemia.
